John Lennon loved the song “You Can Depend on Me” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles back in 1959, which inspired him to write and record “All I’ve Got To Do” off the Beatles 1964 album, “With the Beatles”. Lennon said he was “trying to do Smokey Robinson again”.

John’s song is dark and moody. Paul plays chords on the bass which apparently had never been done before.

I decided I’d like to attempt to record a version of All I’ve Got To Do as Smokey might have done it during their Motown days, tambourine and all. So I laid down the music track and had my 17 year old daughter do the vocals.
